WeVideo
WeVideo is an easy-to-use collaborative online video editing tool that students and teachers can use to create videos. WeVideo empowers students to create, collaborate and express themselves with authenticity.
Schools and departments can purchase licenses for Wevideo education accounts. Some departments have purchased accounts- check with departments you work with to find out if accounts have been purchased. Once purchased, students and teachers can access WeVideo through Clever at clever.sfusd.edu, download the app through self-service, or on the web at wevideo.com. Sign in with your SFUSD account.
The free version of WeVideo does not meet our student data privacy requirements and must not be used. To use WeVideo, please purchase a license by completing an ISA.
Curricular Uses, Resources, & Tutorials
WeVideo is one of my new favorite tools to use with students. It is an online video editing program that is fully integrated with Google Drive so students don’t need to create a new account. First, students should connect WeVideo to Google Drive. Although WeVideo provides some basic video editing functions, there are many features present in desktop video editors that WeVideo doesn't offer, such as slow and fast motion and noise removal, to name a few. If you want to create a more professional video, Wondershare Filmora (originally Wondershare Video Editor) is highly recommended. WeVideo is a cloud based video editing tool that makes media creation fun and easy! Offering advanced editing features in a simple format, this tool is ideal for both LPS teachers and students. Students can engage in storytelling through motion effects, green screen, transitions, and voiceover. The free WeVideo app includes 5 min/month of publish time with WeVideo watermark, PLUS: FEATURES. Edit photos and videos from your gallery or live from your device’s camera. Choose from themes, music and sounds from our included library. Try using a blurred background or photo animation (Ken Burns effect). Add custom text. WeVideo is the complete, feature-packed online video editing and digital storytelling platform that offers students and teachers the easiest, fastest and most fun way to create, view and share.
Students might use Wevideo to record, edit, and publish documentaries, book reviews, research, academic discussions, reflections, peer feedback, and more. These projects build content knowledge and 21st century skills, including the following digital learning competencies described in SFUSD's Digital Learning Scope & Sequence.
Edit & publish videos using original and repurposed media in order to demonstrate learning, engage in critical analysis, examine issues from multiple viewpoints, conduct research and communicate findings, and/or reach a broader audience.
Plan and employ effective research strategies such as using keywords, phrases, filters, operators, & modifiers in search engines, library catalogues, and other databases to locate articles, images, charts, graphs, data, and primary sources.
Evaluate digital content for accuracy and credibility using a variety of strategies (i.e. locating and identifying publication information, cross-referencing information on the web, researching the author or publisher, distinguishing between fact, opinion, news, native advertisements, and propaganda)
Analyze media for personal and cultural bias and explain how media & technology can be used to distort, exaggerate, & misrepresent information.
Use digital tools to construct outlines and draft research papers, including in collaboration with others, while developing academic language & synthesizing information generated from research.
