AKAI LPD8 EDITOR

Connect Akai LPD8 via USB cable; Open FL Studio and enable LPD8 MIDI controller in Settings; That should do it! Of course, you can later reprogram it, just as I did in this video. You don’t need step 1 in order to use it, Akai LPD8 is instantly recognized, however, you need LPD8 Editor later if you wish to reprogram pads and knob controllers. The LPD8 Editor is a editor for USB-MIDI controller designed for musicians. The LPD8 Editor is a editor for USB. Based on Akai Professional’s MPC.


Akai offers an Editor to manually edit, save and load presets for the Pads and Faders. You can download from https://www.akaipro.com/lpd8 (select the DOWNLOADS tab)
In order VirtualDJ factory mapping to operate properly, the Pads and Faders need to have certain Midi Note/CC values in Program 1, as shown in the following image

Manual Programming


  • Open AKAI Professional LPD8 Editor
  • Edit the values for the 8 Pads and faders for Program 1, as shown in the image above.
  • Under Program 1, click on the SEND button
  • You can manually program Programs 2 to 4, the same way, but keep in mind that these will not be offered as VirtualDJ keys, so do this if you intend to use the LPD8 in other applications.
  • You can save your programming from File->Save Program

Load VDJ Programming


  • Download the VDJ preset file from https://www.virtualdj.com/documents/LP8Program_VDJv8.lpd8
  • Open AKAI Professional LPD8 Editor
  • From top menu choose File->Open Program and navigate to the path you saved the previous file.
  • Under Program 1, click on the SEND button.

How To Install and Use Akai LPD8 Editor on Mac OSX

We don’t use Mac, but it the procedure shouldn’t be hard* :

  1. Download Akai LPD8 Editor for Mac and install it:
    1. Unzip downloaded .zip archive
    2. Double-click .dmg file
    3. Drag app file into /Applications
  2. Connect Akai LPD8 via USB cable
  3. Open FL Studio and enable LPD8 MIDI controller in Settings

That should do it! Of course, you can later reprogram it, just as I did in this video. You don’t need step 1 in order to use it, Akai LPD8 is instantly recognized, however, you need LPD8 Editor later if you wish to reprogram pads and knob controllers.

* Note:In Akai LPD8 manual it is stated that you simply connect Akai LPD8 via USB first and then double-click .dmg first. We can’t confirm if there is any practical difference, so give it a try.
